Arrive in Manali
On reaching Manali, check- in to the hotel
and relax till afternoon. Have your lunch and
then leave for your motorbike ride. Go all the
way riding on the Himalayan through the rough
roads along the Valley. There are tricky bends
and stretches on the road which will help you
know the torque characteristics of the bike.
Enjoy the ride to the beautiful Valley. Later,
come back to the hotel and have a comfortable
stay. O/N Stay & Dinner at Manali.
2 : Manali to Tirthan Valley
off the ride and head south, riding with the
Beas River by our side. We head towards
TirthanValley, it’s along the Thirthan River
in Banjar. Valley is the entry point to
Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), famous
for its rich bio-diversity. We stay at our
river touch campsite in homely atmosphere.
O/N Stay & Dinner at TirthanValley.
3: TirthanValley to Sarahan
the Tirthan valley and ride along the GHNP,
climbing up towards the Jalori Pass (10,800
feet) through dense Deodar jungles. This is
a challenging part of the day’s journey
because the road goes from bad to worse
towards the top, with some tricky curves
thrown in as well. After the descent from
Jalori pass, we reach the beautiful town of
Sarahan, famous for the Bhimakali Temple.
The hotel at Sarahan where we stay for the
night enjoys a grand view of Mount Srikhand.
O/N Stay & Dinner at Sarahan.
4: Sarahan to Kalpa
the famous Hindustan-Tibet Highway along the
Sutlej river. A tarmac road with easy riding
conditions with beautiful views of the
Sutlej, it helps us reach Kalpa comfortably.
Kalpa is the main town of Kinnaur district,
home to the delicious Kinnaur Apples. Kalpa
also offers a spectacular view of one of the
holiest mountains in India – Kinner Kailash.
O/N Stay & Dinner at Kalpa.
5: Kalpa to Tabo
an early breakfast, we continue riding
upwards along the narrow valley within which
flows the Sutlej River, in awe of Himalayan
shadows and with newfound respect for the
Border Roads Organization. After some
grueling stretches of dirt tracks and water
crossings, we enter the barren land of Spiti
Valley. The landscape changes from lush
green to rocky and then to barren. O/N
Stay & Dinner at Tabo.
6: Tabo – Dankhar – Kaza
Tabo monastery (10,010 feet) in the morning.
This monastery is famed for its vast
collection of frescos and stucco paintings
and is called the “Ajanta of the Himalayas”.
We also visit Dankhar monastery (12,774
feet), one of the oldest monasteries in the
world. The monastery is built on a high spur
overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and
Pin rivers. Dankhar was the capital of Spiti
valley until the necessities of modern life
forced it to shift to Kaza. O/N Stay &
Dinner at Kaza.
well-deserved rest day, you may use today to
just chill out or check out the town. There
are internet cafés in Kaza for you to go
online from, if you so wish. It’s a good
idea to get enough rest for the upcoming
rides in the next couple of days. O/N
Stay & Dinner at Kaza.
8: Kaza – Kibber – Komic – Kaza
(11,980 Ft) is the capital of the Spiti
region. Today’s highlight is the ride to the
Kibber (14,200 feet) and Komic (14,830 feet)
villages, the highest altitude villages in
the world to be populated all year round.
The village of Hikkim (14,435 feet) has the
highest Post Office in the world (Pin Code
172114). It’s a good idea to mail a postcard
from this Post Office as a souvenir of your
journey. Finally, a visit to the beautiful
Ki Gompa (aka Kee, Key), the largest
monastery in Spiti, wraps up the day’s ride.
Stay & Dinner at Kaza.
9: Kaza to Chandratal lake
ride is special because we ride over Kunzum
La (15,050 feet), the highest point of the
journey. The pass offers magnificent views
of the Chandra-Bhaga range of mountains.
Getting close to our destination, we ride on
a dirt track to reach the Chandratal lake.
Since vehicles are not allowed near the
lake, we have to hike for 20 minutes from
our campsite to this pristine Himalayan
lake. We stay in swiss tents at the
campsite. O/N Stay & Dinner at Chandratal
10: Chandratal lake to Manali
It’s the last day of the ride, but the
initial section is quite rough and has many
water crossings that will test your riding
skills to the max. After crossing Batal, we
behold the amazing sight of Bara-Sigri
glacier, the second longest glacier in the
Himalayas after Gangotri. Once on the
Manali-Leh Highway, we have a comparatively
smooth ride till Manali via the picturesque
Rohtang pass (13,990 feet).
Manali and check into the stay facility.
Overnight stay is at Manali.
11: Manali - Return Journey
